MING 004
The summer of 2001 marked my first visit to Tokyo, one of the world’s foremost cities. I found the life in Tokyo both sweet and sour. There is everything you want, but it might be a lifetime before you get the things that you want. Micro-cultures are dominant, every material product, fashion and concept is pushed to an overwhelming extent, the pursuit of perfection and detail is tangible everywhere. This attitude toward invention continues the Japanese pursuit of the latest and the best, how to take everything to its pinnacle. This technological wizardry sits aside the pursuit of perfection observed in more traditional Japanese cultures such as the Kimono. These elements and the energy that is applied to them all combine to form the city of Tokyo.
